The Stiftung

The idea for the Kunsthaus Salzwedel was conceived in 2010 by a circle of initiators: Gus Kopriva, gallery owner and art collector in Houston/Texas, Hans Molzberger, artist and professor at Houston Baptist University in Texas, Joachim Mikolajczyk, Director of the “KulTour-Betrieb Salzwedel” and Dietrich von Gruben, businessman and patron of the arts in Salzwedel. The Kunsthaus project was crucial for
the foundation of the Kunststiftung Salzwedel.

On September 24, 2012, founding members Dietrich von Gruben and Eckhart Steffens created the Kunststiftung Salzwedel. With the support of Thomas Pleye, President of the State Administration,
Mayor Sabine Danicke and citizens of Salzwedel and the surrounding region, the Executive Board and the Board of Trustees were constituted, and their members installed.

What began as a small private initiative has become a local institution, the Kunststiftung Salzwedel, actively supported by many dedicated people.
